what the critics say

..... A WALK ON THE WEILL SIDE
Some singers pour their personal emotions into the materials they perform. Others prefer to filter those feelings through the eyes of theatrical characters. Helen Schneider, who gave a superb concert of Stephen Sondheim and Kurt Weill songs at Alice Tully Hall, belongs to the latter group.
The New York Times

She's a major talent, with astonishing vocal range, a full palette of emotional color and superior acting technique. Joy, despair, triumph, loss, love and pain - the big emotions are given memorable musical expression in this act by a singer who deserves and will surely get a wider public.
Variety

..... FRIDA
Five star deluxe acting. One of the best monologues seen on a Viennese stage in the last years..
Der Standard

..... SEVEN DEADLY SINS
The driving force is the American musical star Helen Schneider! She has the snotty coolness and the bitter irony that are required for Brecht and Weill as she embodies the life of Anna.
Neue Kronen Zeitung

..... EVITA
Helen Schneider is EVITA and EVITA is Helen Schneider, she absolutely sacrifices herself to the role and she lives it on stage… the stage is reserved for Helen Schneider.
Kreis Anzeiger am Sonntag

The name 'Schneider' drew the public magically to the festival, selling out all performances long before the premiere.
Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

..... SUNSET BOULEVARD
Sir Andrew himself made an appearance on the stage in order to add this praise: 'This is probably the finest performance of any of my shows that I have ever seen'.
Die Woche

There is no doubt: the German version of the musically as well as optically lavish stage entertainment has its own female star of paramount qualities in acting and singing. Helen Schneider is brilliant in the role of the aged Hollywood star, Norma Desmond.
Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung

..... A VOICE AND A PIANO
Helen Schneider shows a never failing intensity as an actress as well as a singer, she is able to give everything. In spite of her flexible and rich potential, it's in her quiet moments when she is most convincing...
Wiener Zeitung

...Her voice is effective, her subtle modulation of phrases is dedicated to emotion...you'll always find a wink, a touch of sentiment and she'll always come at you at a full charge...
Neve Kronen Zeitung

..... miscellaneous
The petite lady with the great voice left her mark on jazz greats like Duke Ellington, Harold Arlen, Stephen Spondheim and Cole Porter, presenting a concert full of excitement and intensity.
Aachener Volkszeitung

One Woman Shows
A Voice and A Piano: from Blues to Broadway

A VOICE AND A PIANO
From Blues to Broadway

What makes a diva? - …run away with a blues band at 17; star in Las Vegas; become a rock star; study acting and become a major player in the world of musical theatre? Not possible? In this quirky, eclectic theatrical concert, Helen Schneider tells some tales, shows some insight, and sings songs from her unusual life. Her comfort in both German and English gives Helen an opportunity to perform this show in either language.

"…Um… you know I can never remember my opening nights. Stage fright?… Nah… Some people jump off cliffs - I sing…

I opened for so many of those blues guys from Chicago. I told my best friend when I was fifteen my goal in life was to be poor and black - the first was easy - the second, well… I developed a southern accent.

…Sunny morning in Vermont… three thousand Harley Davidsons, Hell's Angels, rolled into town … and the cops rolled out. … "We want the girl - out at the camp - tomorrow night…" Not exactly what I had in mind when I pictured a command performance, you know what I mean?… "We guarantee her safety"… yeah, right… that night… we moved.

Have you ever been to Las Vegas?… no windows… you're supposed to lose track of the time of day… I lost track of my life…"
